Things from 2020 For Me and For You
1. It’ll never be perfect. Work-life balance is realistically an ongoing game of see-saw.
2. It truly takes a village. I am eternally grateful for the friends, colleagues, and mentors who propped me up this year. I truly do not know how I would be sane and well right now if not for the people around me who constantly offered advice, support, and space for me. I have so much love for you all!
3. Be nice. Everything this year has turned me into a snappy, high-strung, nit picker, but only towards my family. Maybe it’s because I know they have endless patience with me because they are family. This isn’t a good thing, and I’m working on being a better daughter and sister.
4. Don’t sweat if baking goes differently every time. Portuguese egg tarts are fiddly little things. And I live in Houston.
5. Hello 25? Is getting excited about fixing drywall an indicator of aging? What about heartburn after a grilled cheese?
6. After what happened this year, it can be daunting to think about future plans. But if you don’t think about future plans, you’ll be caught off guard when the time comes. Though initially disappointing, the upending of my 2020 plans have turned me to new opportunities, ideas, and even people. It’s also come with a shit ton of stress, anxiety, and too many responsibilities sooner than expected. But I make it through each day thankful for my village and thinking about how I can keep preparing myself to chase my dreams and daydreams the moment this thing (COVID pandemic) is over!
